In the spirit of the season, Synergy News will donate £200 to the charity of choice of the member who comes up with the tag line that encapsulates what it is that radiographers do best.
Society 'dismayed' at HPC fee increase

The Society of Radiographers (SoR) says it is 'dismayed' to learn that the Health Professions Council (HPC) has decided to proceed with increases to standard registration fees despite clear opposition to this move from registrants expressed during the recent consultation.

Speaking at today's UK Council meeting at SoR headquarters, CEO Richard Evans commented: "This apparent disregard of registrants’ views calls into question the value of the consultation exercise and further damages the relationship between the HPC and its funding stakeholders."

Do they know the answer (or where to find out) if a colleague has a query? Do they live and breathe trade union issues and fight for your rights?

Economic crisis leaves NHS facing staff shortage timebomb

Health workers across the NHS are facing severe hardship due to the current economic crisis and the effect of a below inflation pay deal. With inflation running at a 16-year high, NHS unions have joined forces to press the government to reopen pay talks for next year. The unions argue that the three-year pay deal agreed earlier this year is now leaving hundreds of thousands of NHS workers struggling to make ends meet.

Breast screening saves lives

Breast cancer screening has reduced deaths from the disease by nearly half, according to a recent study.

The research, which examined the effect of screening in East Anglia, shows the programme has reduced breast cancer deaths by 48%. This is one of the first of a series of studies assessing the impact of the National Screening Programme.

“We hope to collect data from other regions, allowing us to compare programmes across the UK, bringing the best practices to areas that aren’t performing quite as well.”

PRB says no to reopening the three year deal

In a letter to the Secretary of State for Health the PRB has clearly stated that they do ‘not request a remit from the Secretary of State to review the pay settlement contained in the agreement between the parties for 2009/10’.

Struck off for lying on CV

A radiographer has been removed from the HPC Register for making false
statements on his CV and not disclosing a suspension order on an
application form.

A panel of the HPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard how Kayode
Balogun was suspended for one year for submitting a falsified document
to the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine in 1999.

On a CV later provided to a recruitment agency, Balogun falsely
